Save The Bees And We Save The World

A good partner should be appreciated and compensated appropriately.

By Bill Hunting

What if bees sang like song birds? Would we treat them like we treat them now? Maybe we shouldn't take labour for granted.

We're so confident they'll endlessly turn that honey into consumable sweetness. Is it too much to ask, that we protect those bees and bee keepers when they need us. Have they not invested enough in our lives? Have you not benefited enough from bees to second think a couple of bad habits?

Colony collapse disorder is the phenomenon that occurs when the majority of worker bees in a colony disappear suddenly leaving behind a queen, food and a few nurse bees to care for the remaining immature bees and the queen.

The worst habit of all is not buying honey as often as you can afford to. Are you using jam on your toast? Stop that! Use honey. Local honey specifically. There are so many wonderful things about honey we just had to compile a few of them here for our readers.

Did you know the ancient Egyptians used it as an embalming fluid and a dressing for wounds; and as an offering to their gods? Honey is also one of nature's best wound remedies because of its anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

When you sit in a garden do you not appreciate the fragrance of those flowers?

Right now bees are dying across the world at alarming rates and they need your help. Bee farming becomes more expensive as the yields of honey decline. Beyond the loss of honey farms generally, bees are being attacked by several new kinds of parasites and pesticides. Some even say there's evidence our cell phones and radio pollution is pushing them over the edge.

There is only one thing I know that's guaranteed to help. BUY LOTS OF LOCAL HONEY. This creates a financial incentive to keeping those bees healthy. I bought a tub this afternoon and I'm committed to buying more every single month.

And not just any honey either. Order from a different honey producer each time, either through a different brand or website. The best are local farmers markets. As an additional benefit, when you spend money on product this close to the land you gain maximum benefit from your dollar and contribute to bottom line GDP. You'll be a patriot!

Do your part to save the bees.
